About the Gorilla

Gorillas are strong , muscular, and intelligent primates. These apes are the largest terrestrial animals in Africa and one of the longest-lived primates.

They have a lifespan of up to 30 years in the wild and up to 50 years in captivity.

A group of gorillas is called a troupe or band and is led by a dominant male called a silverback.

A gorilla’s diet consists mostly of fruit, leaves, roots, and insects. However, there is considerable variation in their diet depending on the particular region they live in.

Like other apes, gorillas are social animals and live in groups of between 20-80 individuals. They communicate using a combination of gestures, vocalizations, and scent markings known as body musk.

Although they are highly adaptable and can survive in a wide range of habitats, gorillas are particularly vulnerable to extinction due to the growing demand for bushmeat and other illegal wildlife products.
