How to Draw a Fish
Easy Fish Drawing for Kids – Step by Step Tutorial
Step 1 – Start by drawing the fish’s head.
Let’s begin with the fish’s head! Imagine you’re drawing a circle, but instead of making it perfectly round, squish it a little on the sides. It should look like an oval or an egg shape.
This will be the fish’s head.
Don’t worry if it’s not perfect—fish come in all shapes and sizes! Make it big enough so you have room to add the eyes and fins later.

Step 2 – Add a cross to form the fish’s eye.
Now, let’s give our fish an eye! Inside the head, draw a small circle near the front. This is the fish’s eye.
Inside the circle, add a smaller circle for the pupil (the black part of the eye).
Then, draw a tiny white dot inside the pupil to make it shiny and lifelike. To make it extra cute, you can add a little curved line above the eye to look like an eyelid.
Fish have big, curious eyes, so make it stand out!

Step 3 – Connect two curved lines to shape the fish’s body.
Time to draw the body! Start from the back of the head and draw a curved line going out and down.
This will be the fish’s back.
Then, draw another curved line starting from the bottom of the head and going out and up. This will be the fish’s belly.
Connect the two lines at the end to make a pointy tail shape. The body should look like a stretched-out teardrop or a leaf.
Easy peasy!

Step 4 – Draw a regular, rounded tail fin, with a slight curve.
Now, let’s add the tail fin! At the back of the body, draw a big, curved line that looks like a smile.
Then, draw another curved line going the opposite way, like a frown.
Connect the two lines at the ends to make a fan shape.
This is the fish’s tail fin, and it helps the fish swim super fast! Make it nice and wide so your fish looks ready to zoom through the water.

Step 5 – Sketch a triangular dorsal fin
Next, let’s add the dorsal fin—that’s the fin on the fish’s back!
Near the middle of the body, draw a triangle shape pointing upward.
The bottom of the triangle should be attached to the fish’s back. You can make the triangle tall or short, depending on how fancy you want your fish to look.
This fin helps the fish stay balanced in the water, so make it stand out!

Step 6 – Draw a small rounded pectoral fin
Almost done! Let’s add the pectoral fin—that’s the little fin near the fish’s head.
On the side of the body, close to the head, draw a small, curved shape that looks like a teardrop or a leaf.
This fin helps the fish steer and stop, so make it look cute and functional. You can even add a few lines inside the fin to show texture.

Adding Details and Colors:
Now it’s time to make your fish look amazing! Here’s how:
- Body: Color the fish in bright colors like orange, yellow, or blue. Add some stripes or spots for extra fun!
- Fins: Use a lighter or darker shade of the body color for the fins. Add some wavy lines inside the fins to show texture.
- Eye: Leave the eye white with a black pupil, but don’t forget the tiny white dot for shine.
- Scales: If you want, you can draw small half-circles or “U” shapes all over the body to look like scales. This will make your fish look super realistic!
Keep practicing your fishy sketches, and soon you’ll be swimming through a sea of compliments. Way to go, fish fanatics!
